Martial Arts Near Azusa

No-gi Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai & kids martial arts — 10 minutes from APU and the heart of Canyon City

Why Azusa Residents Choose 10th Planet

If you live in Azusa — whether you're near the Azusa Pacific University campus, off Foothill Blvd close to the Gold Line station, or up in the Rosedale development toward the canyon — you're about 10 minutes from one of the best martial arts academies in the San Gabriel Valley. 10th Planet Covina sits at 1050 N Citrus Ave, just west of downtown Covina. There are no freeways to cross and no confusing backroads. Head down Foothill or Alosta, swing over to Citrus Ave, and you're there.

Our 4,000 sq ft facility has two dedicated training rooms — one for grappling, one for striking — with classes running morning through evening, six days a week. We train the 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu system (no-gi only, developed by Eddie Bravo) and Fuzion Muay Thai, with separate kids programs starting at age 3. A strong part of our membership comes from Azusa — APU students and staff looking for a real workout, families from Rosedale and the Citrus area, and athletes from Azusa High and Gladstone High who want legitimate grappling and striking training outside of their school programs.

Your first class is free. No contract required to walk in the door, no sales pressure on the mats. Come train, meet the coaches, and decide for yourself.

5 Miles from Downtown Azusa

From the Azusa Civic Center or the Foothill Gold Line station, it's a straight shot west on Foothill Blvd to Citrus Ave — about 10 minutes with normal traffic. APU students coming from campus can be on the mats in under 12 minutes.

Classes That Fit Your Life

Morning BJJ at 8 AM before class or work, kids sessions at 4 PM after school drop-off, evening Muay Thai until 10 PM. Six days a week with Saturday wrestling and open mat — whether you're a college student with a shifting schedule or a parent juggling pickups, there's a time slot that works.

Kids Programs from Age 3

Families from Rosedale, the Citrus neighborhood, and near Azusa High bring their kids for structured Jiu Jitsu, kickboxing, and Saturday wrestling. Age-grouped classes (3–5, 6–9, 10–15) so your child trains with peers their own size.

Serving the Azusa Community

Azusa has always been a city with a strong athletic culture — it sits at the base of San Gabriel Canyon where the Angeles National Forest begins, and the community reflects that outdoorsy, active identity. We see that same energy on our mats. Members come from all corners of the city: students from Azusa Pacific University who want a serious cross-training outlet, athletes from Azusa High School and Gladstone High working on their grappling game, and families from the Rosedale and Citrus neighborhoods looking for an after-school program with real structure.

For parents looking for more than recreational leagues at Memorial Park or Pioneer Park, our kids martial arts program gives children something they can carry for life — disciplined self-defense training that builds confidence, focus, and the kind of friendships you make when you train hard together. Kids as young as 3 start with us, and many stay all the way through high school.

Whether you're an APU student looking for an affordable, high-quality gym near campus, a working adult who needs early morning or late evening options, or a Rosedale parent doing school runs at Valleydale or Mountain View Elementary — this is your gym.

APU Students Welcome

Flexible scheduling and affordable memberships make us a popular training option for Azusa Pacific University students and staff.

After-School & Evening Classes

Kids classes start at 4 PM, right after school at Azusa High, Gladstone, Center Middle, and Slauson Middle. Adult evening classes run until 10 PM for those coming off late shifts.

Family-Friendly Culture

Parents train Muay Thai while their kids take Jiu Jitsu in the next room. Several Azusa and Rosedale families train together here every week.

Questions from Azusa Residents

How far is 10th Planet Covina from Azusa?

About 5 miles and roughly 10 minutes by car. The most direct route is west on Foothill Blvd (Route 66) from downtown Azusa, then south on Citrus Ave — the gym is at 1050 N Citrus Ave. From Azusa Pacific University, you can take Alosta Ave west, which feeds into Foothill Blvd, and you'll be there in about 10–12 minutes. From the I-210, exit at Azusa Ave, head south to Arrow Hwy, and take Citrus Ave north.

Do I need martial arts experience to start?

Not at all. The majority of our members walked in as complete beginners. Beginner-friendly classes run in both the morning and evening, and you'll be paired with experienced training partners who meet you at your level. The 10th Planet system is taught progressively, so there's no expectation that you know anything on day one.

Are there programs for kids from Azusa schools?

Yes. Our kids classes run Monday through Friday starting at 4 PM — well-timed for students getting out of Azusa High, Gladstone High, Center Middle, Slauson Middle, Valleydale Elementary, and Mountain View Elementary. We run three age groups (3–5, 6–9, and 10–15) so your child trains with kids the same size. Saturday mornings include wrestling for the older kids groups.

Is 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu a good option for APU students?

It's one of the best training options near APU for students who want a serious physical activity that's also a genuine martial art. We offer flexible membership options, early morning and late evening classes that work around academic schedules, and a welcoming environment for people who have never trained before. A number of current members are APU students or alumni who started training while in school and stayed with it.

What's the difference between 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu and traditional BJJ?

10th Planet is 100% no-gi — there's no kimono (gi) involved. The system was developed by Eddie Bravo and built specifically for no-gi grappling, with a distinct set of positions and submissions you won't find in traditional BJJ. Because there's no gi to buy or maintain, it's easier and cheaper to get started. Just show up in shorts and a t-shirt or rash guard and you're ready to train.
