No-gi Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai & kids martial arts — 15 minutes from Old Town La Verne and the University of La Verne campus
If you live in La Verne — whether you're near D Street in Old Town, up in the North La Verne foothill neighborhoods, or over on the Wheeler Ave corridor — you're about 15 minutes from one of the best martial arts facilities in the San Gabriel Valley. 10th Planet Covina sits at 1050 N Citrus Ave in Covina, easily reachable from La Verne via Foothill Blvd heading west or Arrow Hwy if you're coming from closer to the university. No freeway required from most of La Verne — it's a straightforward surface-street drive with no surprises.
La Verne is the kind of community where people put real thought into how they spend their time. University of La Verne students come to us for training that's more purposeful than a campus gym. Families with kids at Bonita High, Damien, or Roynon Elementary look for structured programs that go beyond recreational sports leagues. Working adults who want a genuine physical and mental challenge — not just another fitness class — find what they're looking for at 10th Planet. We train the 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu system (100% no-gi, founded by Eddie Bravo) alongside Fuzion Muay Thai, with dedicated kids programs starting at age 3. The facility runs two separate training rooms — one for grappling, one for striking — across 4,000 square feet, with classes six days a week from morning through late evening.
Your first class is completely free. No contracts to sign, no membership pitch on your first day. Come in, train, meet the coaches, and decide if it's the right place for you.
Head west on Foothill Blvd through San Dimas, then pick up Arrow Hwy into Covina and head north on Citrus Ave. Most La Verne residents reach us in under 15 minutes door-to-door, even from the foothill neighborhoods.
Morning BJJ at 8 AM for early risers, kids classes at 4 PM after school lets out at Roynon or La Verne Heights, evening Muay Thai until 10 PM for anyone working a full day. Six days a week with Saturday wrestling and open mat.
Age-grouped kids Jiu Jitsu and kickboxing for ages 3–5, 6–9, and 10–15, plus Saturday wrestling. Parents from Bonita High and Damien communities bring their kids here for structured martial arts training that builds real character.

Learn MoreLa Verne has a distinct identity that sets it apart from the rest of the foothill cities. It's a college town with a tight neighborhood feel — the kind of place where people know their neighbors on the block and choose activities intentionally. We see that same deliberateness in the La Verne residents who train with us. University of La Verne students discover jiu-jitsu as a complete departure from campus rec sports; the problem-solving and physicality of grappling keeps them coming back in ways a treadmill never could.
Families from the Bonita Unified schools — Roynon Elementary, Ramona Middle School, and Bonita High — make up a solid part of our kids program. So do families connected to Damien High School, where student athletes find that martial arts conditioning carries directly into their performance in other sports. After Heritage Park on a Saturday morning or a stroll down D Street in Old Town, stopping in for an afternoon class has become a weekend rhythm for more than a few La Verne families we train with.
Whether you're a university student looking for something more serious than intramurals, a parent who wants an activity that builds your child's character alongside their fitness, or an adult looking for a real challenge after work, you'll find your tribe here.
ULV students train at all skill levels. BJJ and Muay Thai offer something a campus gym can't — progressive skill development, a real community, and a physical challenge that grows with you.
Kids classes run at 4 PM on weekdays — right after the bell at Roynon or La Verne Heights. Saturday mornings feature wrestling alongside BJJ open mat for adults.
Parents train Muay Thai or BJJ while kids take their class in the next room. Several La Verne families have multiple members training here across different programs.
Fill out a quick waiver and meet the coach. We'll walk you through the space and answer any questions.
No-gi means no uniform needed. Athletic shorts or leggings and a t-shirt or rash guard work great. No zippers or pockets.
Beginners are paired with experienced training partners who will guide you through techniques. No one gets thrown into the deep end.
We'll answer questions about membership if you're interested, but there's zero sales pressure. Try as many free classes as you need.

About 8 miles and roughly 15 minutes by car. From Old Town La Verne on D Street, the most direct route is west on Foothill Blvd through San Dimas, then Arrow Hwy into Covina and north on Citrus Ave. From the University of La Verne campus, take Arrow Hwy west directly — same easy surface-street drive with no freeway required. If you're coming from North La Verne near the 210, hop on westbound and exit at Citrus Ave.
None at all. The majority of our members started as complete beginners with zero martial arts background. Beginner fundamentals classes cover everything from the ground up, and you'll always be paired with coaches and training partners who know how to bring a new student along without overwhelming them. Whether you're a University of La Verne student who's curious about BJJ or a parent trying out a first class before signing up your kid, you'll be looked after.
We run three age groups: 3–5, 6–9, and 10–15. Kids Jiu Jitsu and kids kickboxing run Monday through Friday starting at 4 PM, which works well for La Verne families after school at Roynon Elementary, La Verne Heights, or Ramona Middle School. Saturday mornings feature kids wrestling. Parents from the Bonita and Damien school communities often drop their kids off and take an adult class in the other training room at the same time.
Yes, free parking directly in front of the building at 1050 N Citrus Ave. No meters, no time limits, no parking structure to navigate. Pull in, walk in, train.
10th Planet is 100% no-gi — you train in shorts and a rash guard, never a kimono. The system was created by Eddie Bravo and built around a specific set of positions and submissions that work without a gi to grip. It's highly effective for self-defense and MMA, and it's accessible from day one because there's no specialized uniform to buy. Compared to karate or traditional martial arts, the focus is entirely on live sparring and practical ground technique rather than forms or point-based competition. Most people find the problem-solving nature of grappling genuinely addictive.
